Lost Caverns of Ixalan Spoilers
The Lost Caverns of Ixalan is the next major Magic: The Gathering release and it is scheduled to hit shelves on November 17, 2023. The set is a return to the plane of Ixalan, but this time we are going underground to discover what lurks beneath the feet of the Vampires, Pirates, Dinosaurs, and Merfolk from our last visit.
So far, only a few cards from the set have been spoiled, but they give us a glimpse of what to expect. Here are a few of the most notable spoilers so far:
- Ojer, the Axonil
Ojer is a mono-red 4/4 God with trample and a powerful ability: Whenever a red source you control deals an amount of noncombat damage less than Ojer’s power to an opponent, it deals damage equal to Ojer’s power instead.
This means that Ojer can turn even the smallest amount of noncombat damage into a lethal blow. For example, if you cast Shock on your opponent and Ojer is on the battlefield, Shock will deal 4 damage instead of 2.
- Huatli, Poet of Unity//Roar of the Fifth People
Huatli is a returning character from the original Ixalan sets, but she has undergone a transformation in her time away. She is now a legendary creature that can transform into a Saga.
Huatli’s front side is a 2/3 human warrior with the following ability: Whenever a creature you control attacks, you may reveal a card from your hand with mana value 3 or less. If you do, put that card onto the battlefield tapped and attacking.
This ability allows Huatli to quickly build up a board presence, even if you don’t have many creatures in your hand.
Huatli’s back side is a Saga with the following three chapters:
Chapter I – Create a 4/4 Dinosaur creature token.
Chapter II – Each creature you control gets +1/+1 and trample until end of turn.
Chapter III – Huatli returns to the battlefield under your control.
This Saga is a powerful payoff for Huatli’s front side ability. It can create a large army of creatures, give your creatures trample, and even bring Huatli back from the dead.
These are just a few of the spoilers that have been revealed for Lost Caverns of Ixalan so far. With more than two months until the set’s release, we can expect to see many more exciting cards spoiled in the coming weeks.
