In the midst of their forgotten Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2022, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has suffered a major setback as their star bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament where he will only be able to play the game. It is likely that CSK will look for a replacement but the CEO of the franchise revealed that they have not found a bowler who has the same ability with the new ball as Chahar.
“We have left it to the team management and they are yet to get back to us. We have not found an Indian bowler of Deepak’s caliber,” Viswanathan, CEO of the franchise, told Cricbuzz.
Chahar has been one of CSK’s finest bowlers but what the team remembered the most about him was his ability to give the team early breakthroughs with the new ball. In the last three seasons, Deepak has taken 32 wickets in the powerplays at an economy rate of 7.69. The wicket count is still the highest despite having missed five matches for CSK, who bought them back in February for a huge sum at the mega auction.
In his absence, CSK has taken just five wickets in five matches at 8.30 runs per over in the Powerplay. His figures are among the worst for any team this season.
